take a seat and buckle up, because I’m about to take y’all on a one-way trip aboard the feels express. Because sweet merciful Krishna these two just hit me right in the goddamn tender feels so much that i need all of you to share my agony.
First off: for all the praise Tumblr heaps on to Hiddles (rightly so) poor Chris gets forgotten often. But poor Thor here. He’s damn near close to tears. The firstborn warrior-prince of the goddamn space vikings who fears nothing in the entire known universe, is nearly in tears, is reduced to nothing but an older sibling desperately trying to coax an unruly younger brother out of a tantrum. Thor’s used to solving his problems with force and stubbornness and brutality, and all these traits are powerless against Loki. He might as well try to force the wind.
And speaking of Loki, let’s talk about Loki, Loki Silvertongue, Loki Lie-smith, prince of mischief and trickery, can’t say a damn thing, he can’t even deny his brother, can’t even pretend for a moment that it’s not what he wants. He’s so conflicted and unsure every time his and Thor’s desires align because isn’t Thor supposed to be his enemy now? Didn’t he renounce his home? His family? Wasn’t that the point? How could they possibly want the same thing?
And it’s very telling of loki’s youngest-son-complex, “My stupid older brother,” he says, “whatever he does I must do the opposite.” It’s a childish flaw and it’s easily Loki’s greatest, above his vanity and his craving for power and validation. This is why Loki hates Thor so fiercely. Thor is his Achilles heel. He’s a permanent weakness that Loki can never steel himself against.
And Loki is tempted. He wants so badly to go home, and perhaps things can be as they were. But it’s over quickly, because he knows he can’t. He sold his soul. Loki made a deal with the devil, and even if he were to throw down his sceptre and leave the cube and go home Thanos would still come after him on Asgard. It’s like he uses the fact that he doesn’t have the Cube as an excuse, as a justification to himself.
And the way he scoffs at Thor immediately afterwards:
“Oh my stupid brother,” he says “You really haven’t got a clue. You think you can just whisk me home and everything will be fine? I‘ve really done it this time.you have no idea. You have no idea what I’ve done.” That’s what’s so heartbreaking about the two of them. That’s what just gets me right in the goddamn feels so much: they care too much. It would be so much easier if they didn’t. But they’re a liability to each other. They are not opposing forces. They do not strive for different things. They are matter and antimatter. They cancel each other out, violently. They annihilate each other.

Avengers was fantastic. Just a quick sketch to get the feel of how Loki works.. oh and because Loki feels.
