US peeps: SOPA is shelved, but PIPA is still set for a vote on the 24th.

As many of you probably know, SOPA has been shelved after the removal of the DNS blocking portions in order to reach a “consensus” and to allow more time for expert opinions. However, PIPA is still on for a vote, and the senator who’s pushing the legislation, Patrick Leahy, has no such compunctions about adding on a DNS blocking portion should he see fit. While PIPA is not nearly as horrible as SOPA, it is still restrictive and could have a large impact on the way the internet works for everyone. Sen. Leahy sees no reason to delay the vote in light of SOPA being shelved, even despite a load of Republican senators urging him to reconsider. (I’m no friend of the GOP, but I’m glad they at least tried to do something right.)

SO please, send your senators an email (you can find the senators for your state here) and let them know that they should not vote for PIPA and/or delay the vote via filibuster or what have you. Our future depends on it.
